Faith of a Child

But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14

Two months ago I arrived in South Africa, willing to be used however the Lord intended, but not entirely sure what this looked like. The importance of children is talked about throughout scripture. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 Children are our future generation, and teaching them about God’s love is something that brings me extreme joy. When asked to start Children’s Church at Blessman Ministries newest church plant, Hope Church, I could not wait to get started.

The children meeting me with hugs as I arrive at church on Sunday mornings has grown to be one of my favorite parts of the week. If you sneak-a-peak into the children’s classroom you’ll see singing, dancing, and hear the sound of laughter. I am blessed to get the opportunity to teach the Gospel to these children, but what I am learning from them is far greater then I could have ever imagined.

The children travel far distances every Sunday in order to attend church, often without any adult accompanying them. The attendance of Children’s Church continues to grow each week, as the children tell their friends about what is going on at Hope. They are so faithful to what they are called to be, children of God. The commitment these children show each week truly humbles me.

Attending church is not something they are forced to do; they come because they want to be there. These children are growing the church by telling their friends where they go on Sunday mornings. Not because they are told, but instead because they want and are excited to. We should all approach church and our faith like these children; with excitement, joy, and the faith of a child.
